Poison on the streets of Novi Sad

We are residents of Novi Sad who are worried that someone is scattering poison around the city. Poison on the pavement endangers dogs, birds and people, especially children.

Pet Alert Novi Sad is a citizens’ movement. We are not an association or an organization, we are not affiliated with any political party or institution, and we do not collect money.

What is happening

For more than a month, someone has been scattering poison in public places in several parts of Novi Sad, where children walk every day and people walk their dogs.

Both owned and stray dogs have died, and dead pigeons have been found. On the Jamajka promenade in Novo Naselje alone, four dogs are confirmed dead.

Why it is dangerous for everyone

Poison does not choose who eats it: a dog, a pigeon, or a child who fell and put their hands in their mouth. This is not only about protecting animals.

Scattering poison in a public place is causing general danger under Article 278 of the Serbian Criminal Code. It carries six months to five years in prison and a fine, and one to eight years if it is done where many people gather.

Killing or abusing animals is a separate crime under Article 269. It carries a fine or up to two years in prison, and up to three years if several animals are harmed.

Why we started

Residents have called the police and inspectors, but so far no investigation has followed, and the poisonings continue.

News about new places gets lost in the Viber group chat. This site collects them on one map, so that anyone can check where it is dangerous before a walk.

Our goal

We want the poisoning to stop and nobody else to be harmed, neither animals nor people.

We collect accurate information about the cases and pass it to the police, the prosecutor and the inspectors, so that they find and punish those responsible.

Print it and put it up at your building entrance, in a shop, at the vet or in a park. Anyone who scans it sees the poison map and can report a new place. The more people know where the poison is, the safer animals, birds and people are.

If your animal was harmed, send us information that is as accurate as possible:

You can attach all of this in the report form, in the “For the initiative only” part. Only the organisers see it, and it is never published on the site.
